The Struggle: Getting Out
I found myself this past year.
I took the year off coaching, I started a business, a blog(which became this newsletter), created a handful of digital products, and lifted myself out of a depression. These all won’t work for you but here’s a few things I either started or stopped in order to “stop digging.”
Started:
Taking a daily walk with zero “connection.” No podcasts, no audible books playing, don’t even bring the phone.
Daily sun exposure: walk, golf, or hike in nature. 1 on that list was non-negotiable every day.
Creating a newsletter and products to scale the number of people I can “impact” and connect with. Instead of 20 players, I can share with anyone who clicks on my latest article, joins my newsletter, etc.
Practicing all the stuff I was teaching my players (E+R=O mindset, extreme ownership, high-agency, etc)
Using mental models such as contrasting to seek more perspective, introspect and further develop my mindset and thinking
Connecting with new coaches on the phone and being unapologetically myself from the first hello
Stopped:
Consuming seed oils and processed food
Hiding in a digital cave and started sharing my thoughts online and connecting with others
Succumbing to the “perfectionist monster” and put imperfect ideas and products into the universe
Working all the time. Created boundaries and space for “life” to happen and presence to be enjoyed
What Can You Accomplish?
Sometimes our own friends and family are in the way.
Sometimes you are in the way of yourself.
Just like our players have to unlearn in order to relearn, we sometimes have to destroy the previous version of who we were. There might be some “sunk costs” associated with this, it might be difficult… But promise me if you’re in “the struggle” you’ll keep working, improving, evolving, and growing into a future you that you’ll be proud of.
Some of the work I did from April 2020 to April 2021 is listed above. I’m still on that journey.
In February I have been layering in a daily meditation based on Dr. Joe Dispenza’s teachings. I listened to this podcast of his and have been down a rabbit hole on him recently.
Check it out for yourself if you’re interested. I also created a free lifestyle guide for coaches to take back control of some of the controllable.
