If you’ve read this Struggle Series so far… You’re aware of what:
“The Struggle”, “The Weight” and “The Tough Stuff” are.
It’s not easy to take responsibility for things we can’t control. But that’s what leading is.
In the worst moments of those 2 years, when I was in the shit…
Under the weight and in the struggle…
I hated it. I wanted it to be over. I wanted it to be easier.
But now, I’m so thankful that all of it happened.
I’m thankful that my owner allowed me so much rope to fail… and fail… and fail again.
I learned more in 2 years than my 4-year degree taught me. I dealt with 10 years worth of bad experiences packed into 2. I now have a master’s in “Dealing with the Weight.” (not a real degree program)
And in some sort of sick way, I’m excited to feel “the struggle” again. This time with way more perspective and a toolbox full of tools to live sustainably in the thick of it.
When it all was new, it felt overwhelming… but when it happens again, instead of sheer anxiety, I can meet it with confidence and say, “I’ve trained for this.”
The Struggle, The Weight, The Tough Stuff… whatever you choose to call it… Is opportunity.
You’ll grow, you’ll learn a lot about yourself and others. If you’re going through it for the first time, know that it’s not easy, but I’ve made it through… and so will you.
And like Roger Bannister’s 4-minute mile, sometimes we just need to know someone has done it first.
I’ll leave you with these words from Brian Kight as we conclude this series.
The value is in the struggle.
The struggle is the value.
Cheers.
