In a previous edition, I’ve written about how you can turn your drills into more video-game like adventures for your players. Read that one here:
Great thread to dive into here from George:
I think there are a million ways to rethink what we are doing as coaches and how we can frame this in a way that our players can get a ton from.
The way I’ve started to use has been playing my day level to level:
How might teach this to a player?
Give them a framework like the one on the right for their days. Youth players should eat this stuff up. But even as pro athletes, the day to day “to-do’s” can get boring for them. Here’s what it might look like to play your day as a video game:
Level 1- The bare minimum required to be a hockey player at your level( practice, team workout)
Level 2- Recovery Bonus (active recovery session, nature walk, stretching, etc)
Level 3- Nutritional achievement (cooking all meals from home, bodyweight in grams of protein minimum)
Level 4- Skill Bonus (stay on 15 before and 15 min after to hone your craft)
Build on top of this, additional levels can be added as incentives to promote behavior you want to see in your players.
You can also build a list for coaches too.
How might you design your day like a video game?
