Shorthand-ed #001
CHP Readers,
I’ve been doing some thinking about how to distance myself further from social media. I’m trying a new thing.
I’ve been writing on typeshare.co using their template for atomic essays. I plan to post less and less on social media and use my substack as a means to communicate.
I want deeper relationships with the people in my orbit. Building a following on social media often involves tweeting things with no nuance and picking sides.
This medium is more suited towards being anti-social media. Thought out writing with ample context and the ability for you to reply to me just like you would on twitter without using 160 characters or whatever you’re allowed to use…
These mini-essays will be available to the free readership of the site. So you’ll hear from me more than once per month on the free side. These mini essays will be titled Shorthand-ed in your inbox. If you like them, click on them, if you don’t, wait for our new articles.
If you’d like the full experience of what we have to offer, join the paid side and invest further in your development.
Without further ado… Here are some thoughts on gatekeepers and how the creator economy is killing them.
“Nobody wants to buy a book about communication, especially with some of the stories you tell.”
“I don't think you're the right fit for this role.”
“You don't have enough experience for this job position.”
“You can't coach players at this level.”
These are all things you would hear out of the mouths of a publishing agent, casting director, head of recruiting, and a head coach.
The great news in 2021 is none of these opinions matter to you. Because you're aware that the gatekeepers are dead or dying.
Your ideas and stories are good, don't go to publishers to hear how you can't or won't. Self publish.
Don't have experience to work for marketing at Big Box Marketing... Start your own business and get experience running the whole thing.
Someone told you that you can't coach D1 athletes, start posting your ideas online and athletes will be attracted to your work. When a gatekeeper coach won't let you work with their athletes, work with your own.
You're capable of whatever "you" want. Not limited by what "they" want for you...
The script has been flipped, the gatekeepers are flailing, fighting to remain relevant. To keep their power.
Fighting a losing battle...
Because the playing field is being leveled, and they are being leveled with it.
