Shorten This Loop to "Change Better"
“Best idea wins.” -Famous Innovative CEO
“Be in search of breakthrough knowledge. Breakthrough knowledge challenges the status quo, changes your opinion or fundamentally opens your eyes in a way that there’s no turning back.” -TJ Manastersky
“Take your time and really plan it out.” - Most Parents
Don’t get it twisted… There’s a time and place to listen to Mom. But not for the next few minutes.
Start clueing in to the frequency you hear similar lessons with slightly different wording.
Being able to execute Morgan’s tweet and the first two quotes will change your life. If you need to get better or need to make a change, stop reading this article and just start right now. That’s how quickly I want you to take action. Because the more seconds tick off the clock, the more you’ll talk yourself into staying who you are. BK just wrote a recent Daily Discipline about this idea:
Making big changes is counterintuitive in a lot of ways. It feels like they require more planning, more time to think and prepare. Yet the more time you spend thinking about big changes, the more the size of the change intimidates you and allows your mind to convince you not to do it. And with any big change, even the best laid plans are going to be a mess once you get started.

As coaches, we are familiar with Boyd’s OODA loop.
Observe
Orient
Decide
Act
The elite players decide the best because their OODA loops are the most refined. They take in the right info from the environment, orient their body in space, make their decision, and act faster than their opponent.
Getting from D to A quickly is the separator.
Your opponent in making changes is a past version of you. Decide quicker than that version. Take action faster than “past you” would. Close your OODA loop faster than you would have last year.
Start that 24 hour fast today if you would typically have thought about it for a week
Start your blog today when a previous version of you would get hung up on judgment from others
Start working on your limiting factor after practice when a younger version of you wouldn’t embrace the discomfort or even see the gap
Have the difficult conversation that the past coach would have avoided
There’s a time and place to listen to Mom. Like when she says don’t marry a girl after 3 minutes of speed dating.
But the future will belong to those who start the right things faster and stop doing the wrong things faster. Rep, reflect, adjust, go again.
It will belong to those who “change better.”
