My Small Bet on YouTube
Recently I started posting content on YouTube.
Writing has been helping how I think about and articulate ideas but I felt there was still a gap.
This idea that “communication is even more important than we think” is the main reason for sharing more on YouTube.
I have to verbally communicate on that platform, so I get intentional reps.
Well, actually I get reps. What makes them intentional is using recording features on apps like Zoom and Powerpoint that allow you to go back and listen to yourself.
If I can’t teach you in a way that is engaging, clear, and keeps your attention, what good am I to my future players?
A lot of the best coach mentors like Doug Lemov, Brett Bartholomew, and Mark Bennett suggest we record ourselves or videotape ourselves coaching at practice or in meetings. I feared what was on the other side of that recording at first, but just like starting a blog, I got over myself a few days ago.
And wow… I have work to do. It’s eye-opening what you catch. My nerves, my tone, my cadence, my clarity are at different times… all over the map.
I suck, but I’m willing to start sucking less. So for the next few months, you get to watch me take intentional reps to improve my teaching ability. (I won’t judge you if you want to wait 6 months to subscribe when I start sucking less)
Here’s the link to my YouTube if you’re interested. Right now it’s just some hockey clip breakdowns but it will evolve over time.
