Leave the Player Better than you Found Them: Part 2
Get feedback from your players.
User experience from the perspective of players is powerful for your individual coaching development and so you can better develop the players.
You don't know what you don't know. But you'll know if you ask.
The Medium Matters
Figure out what medium your players prefer for them to be their most honest self.
Some players will just come right out and speak to you in person.
For others, it might be a text conversation, email, or other written form.
A Framework
It doesn't have to be all 3 questions at once with each player but start getting these questions answered for yourself so you can be a better coach to each player.
What should I start doing that I don't do already?
What should I stop doing that isn't productive or causing a distraction?
What is one thing you really like that I should keep doing?
Find out what your players are responding to, what they don't like or don't get, and why.
It can be a short causal question to one player after practice or a team email with all 3 questions.
What is the data telling you?
If a cluster of players responds to one question in a similar way, there is probably a pattern of behavior that you need to:
eliminate if it's causing distraction or not producing
or
double down on or at least be mindful to continue doing if they are responding well to that
Your players might show you where your blind spots, weak points, and pain points within the team are.
Their answers could improve:
how you coach an individual player
how you conduct meetings
how you teach concepts
your relationships with players
Why wouldn't you want to know?
