From Chapter 8 of Surf The Wave:
I was just listening to a podcast by Jeremy Giffon, who spoke a bit about this concept from above:
“What you see with someone who has really found their calling is they are just not envious.”
The example he gives is that if he sees an NFL quarterback, he doesn’t think thoughts of, ‘oh that could have been me out there, he sucks, screw that guy.’
But if some 20-year-old sells their company for 600 million dollars, he still gets that envy that says, “that’s a fake company, who the fuck is that guy, he got lucky.”
He says that’s how he can tell he hasn’t quite found ‘his thing in his zone’ yet.
He goes on to say:
“The people who are truly locked in say, ‘great, good for him, that isn’t what I want to do but good for you.’”
If you’re the only one playing ‘your game’ then you can’t be envious of others who are ahead of you in other games.
Where are you in terms of envy?
How can you zero in on the right game for you so you evolve beyond envy?
