He started talking and when he was 2 minutes into his monologue, I felt this wave of higher-level emotions flood my body…
Gratitude, joy, connection.
What a moment.
Carl Jung observed and then invented the concept of synchronicity.
What is that?
According to Jung:
"To describe circumstances that appear meaningfully related yet lack a causal connection."
If that’s confusing, ever heard of the term coincidence?
Breaking that word down you come up with a few things:
Coincide- multiple interrelated events
Co-Inside- multiple looks housed inside of one idea/thought/concept/etc
What are the implications of this?
Have you ever heard of the phrase, “The lesson repeats itself until you learn it?”
Synchronicity can be thought of like this with a small tweak.
The rabbit hole that encapsulates the lesson will whisper to you repeatedly. This is a sign to go down it.
Said another way… When things coincide, go inside.
Take the rabbit hole to the bottom.
I’ve been having massive amounts of synchronicity around a particular topic and another one hit me like a ton of bricks yesterday at camp.
Learning from Brody
All of my favorite relationships in life are co-operative. Co-mentorship. Co-teaching. Everything is connected and we are all part of the universe.
Break that word down.
Uni- One
Verse- Song
One song.
All connected.
All equals.
Meaning, a 15-year-old has as much to teach me as I, the “coach” has to teach him.
After years of reflecting and writing about my experience coaching junior hockey, I’m more open to the lessons of my players than I ever have been.
This is the rabbit hole my reality has been giving me signs to follow for the last couple years.
Synchronicity incoming…
We asked a group of 20 high school-aged kids to watch one of my YouTube teaching clips and write down some of their takeaways.
What was the concept?
What does that mean in your own words?
What are 2 details and how would you explain them to a friend who didn’t know hockey?
The next day we had ice first, a 6:30am ice session that was to be frank… Dogshit.
So when we got in the classroom after the skate, we asked the players to be honest because we had a hunch they crammed their homework in.
I looked at my YouTube analytics and saw a big spike of views at 2,3,4 and 5 am…
How many players blew off the homework? 3 hands went up.
How many players did their homework between the hours of 2-5 am before you left to come here? Half the hands went up.
We called on a few of the unprepared ones because I had a split-test in mind to teach them a lesson in intention.
I got an email notification that one of the players in camp subscribed at around 2 pm the day before, you know a normal time to invest in your assignment toward improving your game.
So I called on him. He didn’t disappoint.
Brody started talking about this clip:
He started talking and when he was 2 minutes into his monologue, I felt this wave of higher-level emotions flood my body…
Gratitude, joy, connection.
What a moment.
He could have taught the concept to a 5-year-old. It was eloquent, resonant, and simply amazing to witness.
Thanks for allowing me to get another rep at a very important lesson Brody.
