Don't Leave the Parking Brake On
I left the small office and stepped back onto the concourse of the arena.
There were players waiting around and chatting.
They could see it on my face…
“Yep, he got cut.”
And they were right.
I exited the doors, threw my bag into the trunk, and drove my Ford Focus 15 hours back home to Michigan.
I replayed my first pro hockey exit meeting over and over in my head…
Coach: “How do you think you played this weekend?”
Me: “If I’m being honest, I don’t think I played well at all…”
He interrupted.
Coach: “Yeah, I don’t think you had a good showing, you didn’t make a lot of plays out there, it felt like you were playing cautious. If you don’t make things happen, I can’t see you fitting here.”
That was the just of it…
