Coming in hotter than over-microwaved Hot Pockets…
I have a serious question for you?
What can you offer your current or next organization?
Your current or next players?
Sit with that for a second while I warm up…
Don’t Overlap Jobs
Hockey coaches have a saying that we learned at a conference and then all started using… Don’t overlap jobs.
Pretty self-explanatory isn’t it?
My next question for you regards said topic.
Substack has all this data for writers and one of them is useful for this post…
The category is ‘Audience Overlap’. Essentially how many of your audience also reads a different author’s work.
This serves as a useful mental model about your inputs and how ‘similar’ you are to everyone else.
In 2024, a mainstream input is a garbage input because there is no competitive advantage when everyone consumes the same information on:
faceoff readiness
the latest powerplay tweak everyone will copy
1 culture soundbite that everyone will focus on this year
Try to plant that garbage that everyone else also has and see if it grows:
Garbage Information = Memes = NPC Spawns
If you want the same plants as everyone else, plant the mainstream, viral, huge social account influencers ‘plant of the year’.
You can’t plant the same seeds as everyone else and then be upset when it doesn’t bear ‘unique’ fruit.
Let’s just state the obvious…
If you are following the hockey influencers, you’re following ‘everyone’. Because they are all doing the same thing.
Memes friends. Memes.
Memes make you the same as everyone else.
Memes lend themselves to conformity.
Conformity doesn’t help you stand out for the next job when 4 other guys are walking, talking, and recycling the same soundbites as you…
Conformity doesn’t push the game forward for our players.
Conformity doesn’t push you to evolve, grow and truly ‘lead’…
Do you have edge?
What is it?
How are you further developing it?
How are you compounding your unique advantage?
How much overlap do your inputs have with the rest of the sport coaches in your field?
Don’t be the coach version of this meme… Don’t be an NPC:
