You want to see the infinite game in one picture?
This is the coaching staff of UW Stevens Point since 2007.
Recognize any names?
Players became AC’s, AC’s either moved on to sweet jobs or moved to be HC.
This is how you keep congruency in ‘who you are.’
This is how you play an infinite game.
When you know who you are. When you know your mission. Your vision.
You’re convicted to a process.
Most organizations don’t know who they are.
And when a coach gets fired and they look for him ‘outside’, nothing will remain of the inside.
The compounding interrupted.
The place gutted.
The walls, are painted with new values.
You might as well rename the school when you go outside.
The torch gets dropped and whoever picks it up starts in their own direction.
Even if they were this close… You’ve seen the next image in my book:
What does UW Stevens Point have to do with the Leafs? Everything.
This is who the ‘experts’ think should take over for Dubas. The guy who put a long term process and plan in place.
Who are they? A bunch of dudes who want to blow up the process and ‘put their stamp’ on the Leafs. Interrupt the compounding, ditch the vision and mission, get rid of the torchbearers and start over.
This is most people’s concern or hangup when you mention they should play the infinite game and suggest a crazy outside-the-box name like…
Ryan Hardy, a guy who is already there…
Friends, this is the point… Get great people that want to move in the same direction… Then simply, don’t change direction.
When you get great people like Stevens Point, you don’t need to go outside when someone resigns, advances or moves into a different role.
They are already in the building.
You’re up Leafs… Tell me what game you’re playing without telling me what game you’re playing.
P.S. Here is a 3 part series to understand why 6 teams in the world are committed to anything and the rest blow with the wind…
