Have you watched the “All or Nothing” series with Tottenham? There’s one word that Coach Mourinho uses more than any other…
Confidence
It’s confidence. And it’s most often used on match days.
“Have the confidence to play”
“Confidence to make mistakes”
“Confidence that you will come back when down 2-0. Not just that you'll tie it, but that you can win.”
He speaks in team talks with such conviction that has to inspire confidence in the entire group.
When I was a player I didn't hear enough of this from my coaches and as a coach, I have not done a good enough job in the first couple of years of my career.
It is a gap I will continue to address, but it is refreshing to hear and see the exemplar.
He doesn't complain about problems at halftime, he doesn't go on and on about how he already told them to do something a million times...
He addresses 1-3 issues and how they will fix them... Done, next.
